Matthew has always had a passion for the law and helping people. Originally from Colorado, Matthew graduated from Duke University in 2005. He obtained his law degree from Emory University School of Law and began his legal career in 2009.
Matthew has been a trial lawyer for his entire career. As a young lawyer he worked as a prosecutor in Clayton County, gaining significant jury trial experience while working on DUI and domestic violence cases.
Matthew left public service and joined one of the Southeast’s best insurance defense law firms where he represented dozens of Georgia cities in litigation matters. He gained substantial experience in State and Federal courts and achieved victories in several high-profile cases.
Matthew joined Dermer Appel Ruder, LLC in 2016 where he has continued his career as a trial lawyer. Matthew fights hard every day for the rights of his clients and achieves the best possible results. Matthew has substantial experience representing clients in car crashes and truck wrecks, serious premises liability incidents, wrongful death cases, civil rights claims, and other personal injury matters.
Matthew is uniquely qualified to understand the strategies and inner workings of insurance companies. Equally comfortable representing an injured individual or a Fortune 500 company, Matthew always works doggedly on behalf of his clients.
Matthew also understands that for many people when they or a family member are seriously injured, it will be their first experience with the civil justice system. He enjoys explaining the litigation process to new clients and spending as much time as needed to make his clients feel knowledgeable and comfortable with the process. If you hire Matthew for your personal injury case, you will be working directly with him and not a paralegal or case manager.
Matthew lives in Peachtree Corners with his wife Kate and their two young children. He enjoys family time, basketball, football, and martial arts.
